A fungus among us?

Hello Everyone,

Last Thursday, Melissa woke up with pain in her chest.  We went to the ER and even though we did not think it was a cardiac issue, she got triaged as a heart patient.  To make a long story short, we believe the pain in her chest was her sternum reacting to the Noulasta and being very busy trying to make blood cells.  However, a CAT scan of her chest was completed as part of the process.  We had to hand deliver the results to Melissa’s doctor at Froedtert Friday morning, and by that afternoon he called us to tell us there were spots, “nodules,” on her lungs that were new.  He does not suspect them to be cancer.  Rather, the chief suspect is a fungal infection.  She was given a very fancy medicine to combat this.  If it does not clear in about ten days, they will have to do a biopsy to determine what it is.  If it doesn’t clear, it could also delay her stem cell transplant.

We appreciate your prayers.  Tomorrow is a very busy day at Froedtert in Milwaukee–labs, pulmonary test, PET scan, MUGGA test, and CT scan all in one day!

We are enjoying a visit from my parents and anticipate Melissa’s parents next week.
